It has been five months since our air source heat pump has been installed so we felt it’s a good time to review the performance and efficiency of Global Energy System’s Caernarfon 18kW Eco Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP).
Key aspects covered in our video review:
* Calculating our coefficient of performance (COP)
* Performance and efficiency
* Control panel and settings for the ASHP
* Noise rating
* Eco Link Portal
* Final thoughts
As part of the installation, because we have bivalent system (if the air source heat pump is struggling, the oil boiler will kick in to get flow temperature up) we have additional monitoring equipment installed which we use to take readings to send back to the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive department.
It’s because we have this equipment installed that we can monitor how well the pump is performing and whether it’s meeting the performance ratios that we were promised by Global Energy System’s sales team. In addition to this, we have access to the Ecolink platform that’s hosted by Global Energy Systems which provides a detailed breakdown of our energy usage.
Since this heat pump has been running over spring and summer in the UK, we’ll be doing a follow up video in autumn to show the performance of the ASHP when temperatures start to drop, followed by another video in winter that will be the pump’s biggest test. Once we’ve completed a year, this will give us a clear indication of whether ASHPs are more efficient than oil boilers.
We hope that you find this air source heat pump review helpful and please leave us a comment below.
