The guys from Ivel Valley Wild Bird Food very kindly sent us some assorted winter treats for our birds. We received a selection of super suet and insect and mealworm logs, fat balls, and apple and berry suet blocks.
The garden has been full of birds and they are loving their daily feasts at a time when food is hard to come by. The berry flavours are going down the best and all the birds are loving them. The biggest problem at the moment is trying to stop the squirrels, which are borderline obese, eating fat balls and suet blocks.
Every day we are visited by blue tits, coal tits, great tits, long-tail tits, black birds, red robins, wrens, chaffinches, sparrows, jackdaws, woodpeckers, wagtails, pheasants and moorhens – and they all expect a descent meal.
The double suet block feeder has been brilliant and we have been very impressed with not only the quality of the bird food but also Ivel Valley’s efforts to be sustainable. Visit their shop if you’re looking for good quality bird food.
We weren’t able to capture all the birds we’ve mentioned on film, but here are the few that weren’t too shy.
